Stem Cell Therapy in Wilmington

Stem cells are known as the body’s master cells or “multipotent” because they have the ability to develop and turn into any type of cell in the body, and to repair or regenerate cells damaged due to injury or disease. These cells serve as “specialized” cells that providing treatment for musculoskeletal conditions that affect millions of people around the world.

Over the years, stem cell therapy has become a phenomenon, as awareness about the effectiveness of the procedure has grown significantly with more research and successful application. Important clinical trials involving stem cells are underway for many other conditions, and researchers continue to explore new avenues using stem cells in medicine. As a result of the science and the outcomes we are experiencing, we are now making stem cell therapy available for our patients.

Since 1981, stem cell therapy, also known as regenerative medicine, has been utilized to promote the reparative response of diseased, dysfunctional or injured tissue. In other words, in tissues like bone, ligament and muscle, adult stem cells (somatic stem cells) can help heal/regenerate cells that are lost through injury, disease or normal wear and tear.

During Stem Cell Therapy, stem cells are harvested from your bone marrow and/or fat cells, then concentrated via a specialized centrifuge. There are several types of stem cells, but the kinds used in orthopedic stem cell therapy are called mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). When someone has a condition or injury, these regenerative cells are injected into the targeted site via ultrasound guidance. This procedure generates new healthy tissue, which accelerates the healing process. This is performed in our office in a sterile and safe manner under local anesthesia.

There are newer cell therapies on the horizon which we are looking at carefully to be sure they will help our patients. This is very exciting as we will be helping our patients in many ways going forward
